About Located just 4.5 miles north of Pacific City on the 3 Capes Scenic Loop. Whalen Island is an 8-acre overnight campground and is surrounded on three sides by the Sand Lake Estuary and abuts an Oregon State Park Natural Area of 200 acre. Shore birds and Bald Eagles are common sights. Park facilities consist of 30 campsites (no hookups), but does have dump station, rest rooms, fishing, crabbing, swimming and hiking. Pets are allowed on leash. Closed in winter. Fees are $12 and $15 per night; there are extra vehicle and tent charges, and a nominal day use fee collected by camp hosts. Wood is available for purchase during the summer. Reservations are available during the summer on a limited basis.
