Andrew Jackson State Park combines history, art and community activities into a setting that has made it one of the S.C. State Park Service’s most popular attractions. The only park in the system dedicated to a U.S. president, Andrew Jackson State Park features a museum that details the boyhood of the nation’s seventh president, who grew up here in what then was known as the Waxhaws of the South Carolina backcountry. Andrew Jackson State Park is located in Lancaster, South Carolina on the North Carolina border. This is where the seventh U.S. President grew up. You’ll be able to walk around the same areas he played in as a child. Guests who visit the park can enjoy boating, fishing, hiking, and biking throughout the 360 acres. There’s even an 18-acre lake, complete with an island in the middle that is filled with hiking trails. After you’ve explored the surrounding wilderness, you can learn more about President Jackson and his family in the museum, take in the living history program, or stroll through the historic garden and cemetery.
